How to delete your Janitor AI account, and what happens to your data

Janitor AI lets you delete your account from its Security settings, confirmed with a code sent to your email, and its help center says support staff cannot do it for you. Here are the steps from Janitor's own pages as of October 29, 2026, how to cancel janitor+, and what those pages do and do not say about your data.

Updated October 29, 2026. Facts checked against the cited sources on October 29, 2026.

The short answer

As of October 29, 2026, Janitor's help center says you delete your account under Settings, then Security, then Delete account, and confirm with a 6-digit code sent to your email. It says deletion is permanent and that customer support cannot delete accounts manually.

If you pay for janitor+, cancel it first. If you pay for janitor+, cancel it first. Janitor's subscription FAQ does not say whether deleting an account cancels a subscription. It says to email billing@janitorai.com, with your account email, about subscription or billing problems.

Step 1: Cancel janitor+ if you pay for it

Janitor's subscription FAQ (updated June 25, 2026) says how to cancel depends on where you subscribed. It says your plan stays active until the end of the current billing period, then the account returns to the free tier.

  • Web: go to Settings, select Billing, then Manage Subscription. Janitor says this opens a Stripe billing page where you can cancel at any time.
  • iPhone: cancel through the App Store. Janitor says subscriptions bought in the app cannot be cancelled from the web.
  • Android: cancel through Google Play.
  • Refunds: Janitor says subscriptions are generally non-refundable except where its terms or the law require, and to email billing@janitorai.com about a suspected billing problem.

Cancelling through Apple or Google

On an iPhone, Apple's support page says to open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose the subscription and tap Cancel Subscription. If there is no Cancel button, Apple says the subscription is already cancelled.

For Google Play, Google's help page says to open your subscriptions in Google Play (play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions), choose Manage next to the subscription, then Cancel subscription. Google says uninstalling an app does not cancel its subscription, and that you keep access for the time you have already paid for.

The App Store lists Janitor+ Monthly and Janitor+ Annual as in-app purchases for Janitor's iPhone app, Janitor: Interactive Stories.

Step 2: Delete your Janitor AI account

These are the steps in Janitor's help article on deleting an account (updated May 16, 2026). The article gives one set of steps and does not give separate instructions for the website, iPhone or Android.

  • Go to Settings and open the Security tab.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Delete account.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions. You will get a 6-digit one-time code by email, which you must enter to confirm the request.
  • You need access to the email address linked to your account. Janitor's help center says that if you no longer have it, support cannot help with deletion.

What deletion removes

Janitor's help article says deletion is permanent, and that your posts, characters, personas and profile information are permanently removed and cannot be recovered.

As of October 29, 2026, the article does not mention chats, and we did not find a Janitor help center page describing what happens to chat history when an account is deleted.

What Janitor may keep

As of October 29, 2026, we did not find a Janitor help center page describing how long data is kept after deletion, or whether backups or legal holds apply. Janitor's privacy policy (last updated September 17, 2026), as shown on its website on October 29, 2026, says deleting an account through Settings, Security, Delete Account deactivates it first and shows a scheduled deletion date. It says you can sign back in during that grace period to restore the account, and that once permanent deletion is complete the account cannot be restored. The policy says deletion does not immediately erase every account record: your email address and sign-in provider details may remain in deleted-account records for deletion notices, purchase or receipt recovery, security, fraud prevention, legal obligations or disputes. It says transaction records are kept as needed for legal and accounting obligations, and that you can email support@janitorai.com to ask for deletion of retained personal data.

Are your chats used to train AI?

As of October 29, 2026, we did not find a Janitor help center page saying whether chats are used to train AI models or describing a way to opt out.

Janitor's help article on the janitor+ Router, which gives subscribers access to third-party AI models, does not name the model providers or say how they store or use prompts. If you used an outside model through a proxy or the Router, those services' own policies may apply to chats you sent them; our guide to whether Janitor AI is safe explains how proxies work on Janitor.

Requesting deletion by email or form

As of October 29, 2026, we did not find a Janitor page offering a way to request account or data deletion by email or web form. Its help center says only you can complete an account deletion, and that support cannot delete accounts for privacy and security reasons.

Whether a particular privacy law gives you a right to ask for deletion, and how it applies, is a legal question.

Regulator actions

As of October 29, 2026, we found no action by a U.S. or foreign regulator on Janitor AI's data practices in the official sources we checked. Our guide to whether Janitor AI is safe covers its age rules, mature content settings and crisis features.

Laws and bills on chat data

No U.S. law names Janitor AI. The People-First Chatbot Act (H.R. 9619) was introduced in the U.S. House on July 9, 2026 and referred to the Energy and Commerce Committee. It would require chatbot providers to delete a user's chat log or personal data on request, bar keeping chat logs for more than five years unless the bill or another law requires it, bar selling chat logs, and require affirmative consent before training on adults' data. It is a bill, not law.

We are not saying Janitor AI is covered by, or out of compliance with, any of these laws. It may have practices it has not published, and whether a law applies to it is a legal question this guide does not decide.
