How to delete your Replika account, and what happens to your data

Replika, made by Luka, Inc., lets you delete your account from the app or its website, and its help center says deletion cannot be undone. Deleting does not cancel a paid subscription. Here are the steps from Replika's own pages, what its privacy policy says it keeps, and what Italy's regulator found about its data practices.

Updated October 29, 2026. Facts checked against the cited sources on October 29, 2026.

The short answer

As of October 29, 2026, Replika's help center says you delete your account from Account Settings, reached through the gear icon in the app or at my.replika.com. It says deletion permanently removes your profile and chat history and cannot be undone.

Cancel any paid plan first. Replika's help center says deleting the app or your account does not automatically cancel a subscription. Its privacy policy, last updated October 28, 2026, says some records, such as financial records, are kept for years after an account is closed.

Step 1: Cancel your subscription first

Replika's help center says deleting the app or your account does not cancel a subscription, which renews automatically, and that you should cancel on the same platform you subscribed on. It says Replika does not manage subscriptions billed through PayPal, the App Store or Google Play.

Replika's help center says purchases are final and non-refundable, and to contact support if you think there was a billing error.

  • In the app or on the web, per Replika's help center: log in to the Replika app or replika.com, open Settings from the gear icon, tap Subscription, then Cancel subscription, and follow the prompts.
  • PayPal, per Replika's help center: log in at paypal.com, go to Settings, then Payments, then Manage Automatic Payments, select Replika and cancel.
  • To check an Android subscription, Replika's help center says to open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions. If Replika is listed as active, it has not been cancelled.
  • To check an iPhone subscription, Replika's help center says to open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions. If Replika is listed as active, you must cancel it there.

Cancelling through Apple or Google

On an iPhone, Apple's support page says to open Settings, tap your name, tap Subscriptions, choose the subscription and tap Cancel Subscription. If there is no Cancel button, Apple says the subscription is already cancelled.

For Google Play, Google's help page says to open your subscriptions in Google Play (play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions), choose Manage next to the subscription, then Cancel subscription. Google says uninstalling an app does not cancel its subscription, and that you keep access for the time you have already paid for.

Step 2: Delete your Replika account

These are the steps in Replika's help article on deleting an account, as of October 29, 2026. The article gives one set of steps for the mobile app and does not give separate iPhone and Android instructions.

  • Mobile app: open Settings from the gear icon on the Home Screen, go to Account Settings and choose the option to delete your account.
  • Pick a reason, enter your password, then confirm the deletion (or choose to keep your account).
  • Web: log in at my.replika.com, open Account Settings from the gear icon in the top left and choose the delete option. Replika says the remaining steps match the app.
  • If you cannot log in, the article links to Replika's login help page.

Can you delete only your chats?

Replika's help center says there is no way to delete your entire message history without deleting your account. Instead, it says you can open the Memory section to view what your Replika remembers and delete specific items.

That help article also gives the account deletion path with different menu names: Settings, then Account, then Delete Account on iOS or Android, and Settings, then My Profile, then Delete Replika on the web.

A separate help article says the app shows only the past four months of chat history for technical reasons. That is about what you can see in the app; the privacy policy sets how long Replika keeps conversation history, covered below.

What deletion removes, and what Replika keeps

Replika's help center says deleting your account permanently removes your profile, badges, levels, XP, chat history, photos and links you exchanged. As of October 29, 2026, its privacy policy (last updated October 28, 2026) says:

  • Profile information, memories, diary, interests and preferences are deleted within 60 days after the account is deleted or closed.
  • While an account is open, Replika keeps conversation history for 24 months for text messages and 12 months for photos, videos and voice messages. The policy does not give a separate deadline for messages after deletion.
  • When you ask for deletion, Replika says it also instructs its service providers to delete your personal data.
  • Financial records, such as purchases, transactions and rewards, are kept for 10 years from the end of the year of the transaction for tax and accounting reasons. Device and advertising identifiers are removed from those records within 60 days of account deletion.
  • Records of consents and privacy choices are kept for 5 years after you delete your account.
  • Data kept to meet legal obligations is held for the period those laws set, and in any case up to 10 years from collection.
  • Product analytics data is kept no longer than 24 months, then deleted or de-identified.
  • The policy does not mention backups. It says data may be kept longer when needed to protect or enforce Replika's rights in legal claims or disputes.

Are your chats used to train AI?

Replika's privacy policy says it takes small portions of messages and other content, anonymizes them, and uses them internally to train its own safety algorithms and improve the chatbot. It says this anonymized data is not used to train third-party large language models.

The policy also says Replika shares the minimum necessary conversation data with third-party AI model providers to generate replies, that those providers are contractually barred from using it to train their own models, and that they process it only briefly.

As of October 29, 2026, we did not find a Replika page describing a setting to opt out of the internal training use. The policy says this use is based on Replika's legitimate interests, and that users can object at any time to processing on that basis. It also says users can withdraw consent and manage choices such as sale, sharing and targeted advertising under Your Privacy Choices in the app's settings or the website footer.

Requesting deletion by email or form

Replika's privacy policy says you can exercise rights such as access, correction and deletion, depending on where you live, through Your Privacy Choices, by deleting your account, by emailing my@replika.com, or by writing to Luka, Inc. at 490 Post Street, Suite 526, San Francisco, CA 94102. A section on sensitive data names privacy@replika.com for requests to delete that data. The policy says California residents can ask to know, access, delete and correct their data, and that Replika honors Global Privacy Control signals.

Replika's help center also describes a right-to-erasure process under the EU's data protection law (GDPR). It says to submit a request through its support form from the email address on your account, choose the Privacy & Safety category, and include a screenshot showing your username and, if relevant, a proof of purchase. Replika says it will respond within one month and will email you once deletion is complete.

Whether a particular privacy law covers you or a given request is a legal question.

What Italy's regulator found about Replika's data practices

Italy's data protection authority, the Garante, has taken these actions against Luka. Its findings are a regulator's decisions under the GDPR.

  • February 2, 2023: the Garante ordered an urgent temporary limitation on processing the personal data of users in Italy. It cited the lack of age checks, an inadequate privacy policy and the absence of an identifiable legal basis for processing. Its 2025 decision says this limitation was suspended in June 2023, subject to conditions.
  • April 10, 2025: the Garante found that, until February 2, 2023, Luka had not identified a legal basis for its processing and had no age verification, and that its privacy policy was inadequate in several respects. It noted the policy in 2023 gave no specific retention periods, and that a 2024 version still did not. It ordered Luka to bring its processing into line with the GDPR.
  • May 19, 2025: the Garante announced a €5 million fine against Luka and a separate inquiry into the legal bases for processing across the life cycle of the generative AI system behind Replika, asking about risk assessments and the types of data used to develop and train it. It said publication of the decision as an extra penalty was on hold while Luka's court challenge was pending.
  • As of October 29, 2026, we did not find an official Garante update on the outcome of the court challenge or of the separate inquiry.

Laws and bills on chat data

No U.S. law names Replika. The People-First Chatbot Act (H.R. 9619) was introduced in the U.S. House on July 9, 2026 and referred to the Energy and Commerce Committee. It would require chatbot providers to delete a user's chat log or personal data on request, bar keeping chat logs for more than five years unless the bill or another law requires it, bar selling chat logs, and require affirmative consent before training on adults' data. It is a bill, not law.

We are not saying Replika is covered by, or out of compliance with, any of these laws. It may have practices it has not published, and whether a law applies to it is a legal question this guide does not decide.
