The short version
Chatbot Laws uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and tools people use. It has no advertising, tracking pixels, accounts or sign-up forms. It does not sell or share personal information, and it does not use personal information for targeted advertising. You can turn analytics off below.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4, a service of Google LLC. It sets first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID) so it can tell a new visit from a return visit. It receives the pages you view, the page that sent you here, your browser and device type, an approximate location worked out from your IP address, and how you use the site:
- words you search for with the search box, which appear in the page address;
- the type of chatbot you choose in the checker and how many laws matched;
- when you copy a citation or embed code, or download a data file;
- clicks on links to other sites, such as official sources;
- that a question was asked in the chat. The text of the question is not sent.
Google says Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We do not send names, email addresses or chat text to Google Analytics. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off, and the analytics account is not linked to any advertising account. Analytics data is kept for 14 months and then deleted. We use the reports to decide what to update and add. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google's privacy policy.
Your choices
Analytics does not load if your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are not given analytics cookies; for them the tag sends only limited measurement signals without cookies. You can also turn analytics off in this browser:
Analytics settings need JavaScript.
Google also offers a browser add-on that blocks Google Analytics on every site.
Chat and search
Questions typed into the chat are answered in your browser from data files this site publishes. The text of your question is not sent to us or to Google Analytics. The search box in the header shows results as you type; if you press Enter, your browser loads a results page whose address includes your search words, so they reach the web host and Google Analytics like any page address.
Hosting
The site is served by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel receives standard technical information when your browser requests a page, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested, the referring page and the time, and uses it to deliver and protect the site. See Vercel's privacy policy.
Embeds
When another site embeds a Chatbot Laws map or card, your browser loads it from chatbotlaws.com under this notice. The embed sends its height to the page that holds it so the frame fits; it sends nothing else, sets no cookies and does not load Google Analytics.
If you email us, we use your address and message to reply and to act on corrections. We do not add you to a mailing list.
Children
The site is written for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Links
Pages link to legislatures, agencies, courts and companies. Their sites have their own privacy practices.
