Is Kindroid safe? Its age checks, content rules, privacy terms and the laws that may apply

Kindroid is an AI companion app and website that its own pages describe as for adults. This guide sets out what its legal page, help center and app store listings say as of October 31, 2026, what they leave out, and which state chatbot laws may be relevant.

Updated October 31, 2026. Facts checked against the cited sources on October 31, 2026.

The short answer

Kindroid says it is for adults. Its terms set a minimum age of 18 (or the age of majority where a user lives, if that is higher), its homepage says users must be 18 or older, and its help center describes an age check for flagged free accounts that runs through a vendor called Yoti. Its moderation guidelines allow adult content, including erotic roleplay, and set three limits: planning imminent self-harm, planning harm to others, and sexual or abusive depictions of characters portrayed as minors.

Kindroid's pages say chats are encrypted, that its support team cannot see them, and that no human reads content during automated detection. They do not say whether chats are used to train models, and they do not describe parental controls. We found no regulator or attorney general action naming Kindroid in official sources as of October 31, 2026.

Who runs it and who can use it

As of October 31, 2026, Kindroid's legal page (last updated March 3, 2026) names Beautifully Incorporated as the legal entity, with an address on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles. Its terms of use took effect November 1, 2024 and its privacy policy June 28, 2024. The App Store lists Beautifully Incorporated as the seller, and Google Play's developer section names Beautifully Inc. The terms say they are governed by Delaware law and send disputes to arbitration in Los Angeles with a waiver of class actions; they say users can opt out of arbitration by written notice postmarked within 30 days of first accepting the terms.

The terms say the services are for people at least 18 or the age of majority in their jurisdiction, whichever is greater. The homepage says users must be 18 or older. Separately, the privacy policy says Kindroid does not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16 and has a section on children under 13. That wording sits alongside the terms' 18+ rule.

How age is checked

Kindroid's welcome page in its help center says sign-up asks for a birthday and that anyone under 18 cannot continue. Its age verification page (updated October 9, 2026) says users must be 18 or older. It says paying users, whether through the App Store, Google Play or web billing, count as verified by their payment, and that time added by a gift code does not count. Free accounts that have not verified may be assessed by a behavioral age estimation system that runs on Kindroid's existing safety and moderation systems. The page says most free users never see a prompt, and that a prompt appears only when signals consistent with a minor are detected.

Flagged users can verify by subscribing or starting a trial, or through Yoti with either a selfie age estimate or a government ID upload. The page says the selfie check passes at an estimated age of 21 or older, so users aged 18 to 20 should use ID. It also says Kindroid receives only a pass or fail result and does not receive or store images or identity documents, and that Yoti encrypts submitted data and deletes biometric data after the check.

Google Play shows a 16+ rating for the app, with a content descriptor of Sex. The Google Play listing was last updated October 6, 2026.

Adult content and content rules

Kindroid's moderation guidelines say the service allows adult content and erotic roleplay between adults, fictional violence, horror and other dark creative themes. Its FAQ calls Kindroid a neutrally aligned, unfiltered AI, says the user is solely responsible for the content they generate, and says media generation follows the content guidelines that apply where the user uses Kindroid. The moderation guidelines set three red lines:

  • Imminent self-harm: actively planning self-injury with a method, means or timeline. The page says venting, past behavior and fiction are not violations.
  • Imminent harm to others: using the AI to plan real-world assault, terrorism, harassment, doxing or stalking. Fantasy and roleplay are not violations, according to the page.
  • Sexual or abusive depictions of characters portrayed as minors, which the page calls zero tolerance. It says a stated age of 18 or more does not override the depiction, and that a minor character simply being present is not a violation.

Kindroid Social, a separate public sharing feed, has its own guidelines. They say explicit material is filtered by AI and may be reviewed by humans when reported, that suggestive posts are hidden from the Feed by default (a User Center setting can change this), and that depictions of minors are prohibited except in appropriate family contexts. The page says content shared on the public Kindroid network may be viewed, shared and redistributed by any platform user.

Teen protections and parental controls

Kindroid's pages describe it as for adults only. The legal page, help center articles, moderation guidelines and age verification page we reviewed do not describe a teen mode or parental controls. The only age-related controls they describe are the age checks above and the rule against sexual or abusive depictions of anyone under 18.

Crisis and self-harm features

Kindroid's moderation guidelines say automated systems monitor conversations, including the AI's replies, for real-world suicidal intent or content that encourages self-harm. They say a single detection does not trigger action; when risk is identified again, a notice refers users to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline in the U.S. by call or text, the Crisis Text Line (text HOME to 741741), and, outside the U.S., the International Association for Suicide Prevention's directory of crisis centres. The page says the notice repeats with each new detection and, if concern continues, normal conversation is paused until the user follows on-screen steps and emails Kindroid support.

The same page says Kindroid is not an emergency or mental health service and tells users in immediate danger to call 911 or their local emergency number. The terms say the services should not be considered medical care or mental health services and should never be used as a substitute for emergency care.

Kindroid's FAQ says that for users whose approximate location is in New York State, the app shows an AI reminder when opened (at most once every 3 hours) and repeats it every 3 hours during long sessions. It says there is no setting to turn the reminder off.

Privacy: who sees your chats, and what is shared

  • What it collects: the privacy policy's data chart lists profile and contact data, payment and purchase data, device and IP data, web analytics, age or date of birth and gender, and IP-based geolocation. Its data retention section says chat conversations are retained.
  • Encryption and staff access: the privacy policy says data is encrypted at rest and in transit and that Kindroid will not be able to view it in its normal operation, though it may decrypt data when legally required or otherwise necessary, including to enforce its terms. The homepage and FAQ say the support team cannot see chats; the FAQ says access to production systems is limited to a small number of engineers and does not say expressly whether engineers can read chats.
  • Automated scanning and review: the moderation guidelines say an AI system scans recent chats, calls, media requests and input fields such as backstory, not historical chats. They say no human reads content during automated detection, and they describe Trust & Safety staff reviewing the context behind an account lock when the user appeals and gives explicit consent. A Flag reply option, which the help center says is available in the Android app, sends a reply to Kindroid's team for review.
  • Training: the terms and privacy policy do not mention training AI models. The terms give Kindroid a perpetual, worldwide license to user content and let it use de-identified or aggregated content, and the privacy policy lists improving the services, including research and product development, among its purposes.
  • Sharing and sale: the privacy policy says Kindroid does not sell or share personal data and has not in the prior 12 months. It names service providers for hosting, analytics, security and fraud prevention, support and payments, and says data may go to authorities when legally required or in a merger, acquisition or bankruptcy. It also says analytics cookies measure the performance of its advertising campaigns. Google Play's data safety section says no data is shared with third parties, and the app description says there are no ads and data is not sold; these are the developer's own statements.
  • Retention: the privacy policy says Kindroid keeps chats and generated media until a user deletes a specific AI or the account.

Deleting a Kindroid or your account

Kindroid's help center says to delete a single Kindroid from the Chat tab, open the menu next to it and choose Delete, then either delete it now by typing its name or schedule deletion after 24 hours. To delete an account, a user deletes every Kindroid on it; all but the last go instantly, and the last is scheduled for 24 hours. The help center also lists Delete account under Account privacy in Profile and Preferences.

After the last Kindroid is deleted, the help center says global journals, user backstory, personas, saved places and location history, and custom voices are removed, while subscription status, currency counts and other logistical data are kept to prevent abuse. Deleting an account does not cancel a subscription. The terms say Kindroid may stop storing and displaying user content after account deletion but that publicly shared content may remain available to others. Locked accounts can appeal or request a copy of their data but cannot delete the account, according to the moderation guidelines.

Kindroid's help center lists Export data under Account privacy in Profile and Preferences. Its FAQ says one export can be requested every 30 days and that the download link expires after 7 days. Its legal page says every 180 days. This guide does not reconcile the two figures. The legal page says California residents can request access, deletion and correction of their data.

Government actions

We found no attorney general, FTC or other regulator action naming Kindroid in official sources as of October 31, 2026. It was not among the seven companies that received the FTC's companion chatbot orders in September 2025, the 13 companies that 44 attorneys general wrote to in August 2025, or the four providers Australia's eSafety Commissioner examined in its October 2025 transparency notices.

Which chatbot laws may be relevant

No law names Kindroid. Whether a particular service counts as a companion chatbot under a given law is a legal question. These state laws set duties for companion chatbot or AI companion operators:

  • California SB 243, signed October 13, 2025 and in effect since January 1, 2026: when a reasonable person could be misled into thinking they are talking to a human, operators must give a clear notice that the chatbot is AI. They must maintain and publish a protocol for preventing suicide and self-harm content that refers users to crisis services. A person injured by a violation may sue.
  • New York's AI companion law, in effect since November 5, 2025: operators need a protocol that makes reasonable efforts to detect suicidal thoughts or self-harm and refers users to crisis services. They must tell users they are not talking to a human at the start of an interaction and at least every three hours.
  • Washington HB 2225 and Oregon SB 1546 take effect January 1, 2027. Each requires an AI disclosure and a published suicide and self-harm protocol, with additional safeguards for minors.
  • Connecticut Public Act 26-15 (SB 5), signed May 27, 2026: from January 1, 2027, operators of AI companions must publish a suicide, self-harm and violence protocol, disclose that the companion is AI and take steps against it claiming to be human, with added protections for users known or suspected to be minors.
  • Georgia SB 540 (Act 518), signed May 11, 2026: from July 1, 2027, operators of AI companion chatbots offered to users in Georgia must disclose that users are talking to AI, protect minors from sexual and manipulative content, run a self-harm crisis protocol and use age assurance before sexually explicit features. The Attorney General enforces it.
  • California SB 1119 (Chapter 190, Statutes of 2026), signed September 10, 2026: its age assurance rules take effect January 1, 2027, when SB 243's duties toward known minors end, and from July 1, 2027 companion chatbot operators that allow users under 18 must assess child-safety risks, run a crisis protocol, set protective default settings and offer parental controls.

We are not saying Kindroid is covered by, or out of compliance with, any of these laws. It may have practices it has not published, and whether a law applies to it is a legal question this guide does not decide.
