Chatbot Laws Which laws apply?

Alabama chatbot laws

Alabama has no law that specifically regulates AI chatbots, as of November 4, 2026.

Multistate actions Alabama's attorney general joined

Joining a letter or court filing is not a lawsuit or a finding against any company.

Other Alabama laws that may matter

  • Consumer protection law: Alabama Deceptive Trade Practices Act (Ala. Code section 8-19-1 et seq.). It applies to businesses generally, not to chatbots specifically; whether it reaches a particular chatbot practice is a legal question.

What still applies

Without a state chatbot law, companies serving Alabama residents may still face other states' laws when they serve users there, general consumer protection law and federal rules. Congress is considering 13 chatbot bills; see federal bills.
