District of Columbia has no law that specifically regulates AI chatbots, as of November 4, 2026.

Joining a letter or court filing is not a lawsuit or a finding against any company.

Other District of Columbia laws that may matter

  • Consumer protection law: Consumer Protection Procedures Act (D.C. Code sections 28-3901 to 28-3913). It applies to businesses generally, not to chatbots specifically; whether it reaches a particular chatbot practice is a legal question.

What still applies

Without a state chatbot law, companies serving District of Columbia residents may still face other states' laws when they serve users there, general consumer protection law and federal rules. Congress is considering 13 chatbot bills; see federal bills.
