Chatbot Laws Which laws apply?

Florida chatbot laws

Florida has no law that specifically regulates AI chatbots, as of November 4, 2026.

Multistate actions Florida's attorney general joined

Joining a letter or court filing is not a lawsuit or a finding against any company.

Other Florida laws that may matter

  • Consumer protection law: Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act (Fla. Stat. sections 501.201-501.213). It applies to businesses generally, not to chatbots specifically; whether it reaches a particular chatbot practice is a legal question.
  • Consumer privacy law: Florida Digital Bill of Rights (Fla. Stat. sections 501.701-501.722), in effect from July 1, 2024. It sets rules for personal data, which can include what people type into a chatbot, for businesses that meet its thresholds.

The 2027 legislative session

The Florida Legislature convenes on March 2, 2027. New chatbot bills will be added to our 2027 tracker as they are filed.

What still applies

Without a state chatbot law, companies serving Florida residents may still face other states' laws when they serve users there, general consumer protection law and federal rules. Congress is considering 13 chatbot bills; see federal bills.
