Indiana chatbot laws

Indiana has no law that specifically regulates AI chatbots, as of November 4, 2026.

Joining a letter or court filing is not a lawsuit or a finding against any company.

Other Indiana laws that may matter

  • Consumer protection law: Indiana Deceptive Consumer Sales Act (Ind. Code section 24-5-0.5). It applies to businesses generally, not to chatbots specifically; whether it reaches a particular chatbot practice is a legal question.
  • Consumer privacy law: Indiana Consumer Data Protection Act (Ind. Code art. 24-15), in effect from January 1, 2026. It sets rules for personal data, which can include what people type into a chatbot, for businesses that meet its thresholds.

What still applies

Without a state chatbot law, companies serving Indiana residents may still face other states' laws when they serve users there, general consumer protection law and federal rules. Congress is considering 13 chatbot bills; see federal bills.
