Chatbot Laws Which laws apply?

Louisiana chatbot laws

Louisiana has no law that specifically regulates AI chatbots, as of November 4, 2026.

Multistate actions Louisiana's attorney general joined

Joining a letter or court filing is not a lawsuit or a finding against any company.

Other Louisiana laws that may matter

  • Consumer protection law: Louisiana Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law (LUTPA) (La. R.S. 51:1401 et seq.). It applies to businesses generally, not to chatbots specifically; whether it reaches a particular chatbot practice is a legal question.

What still applies

Without a state chatbot law, companies serving Louisiana residents may still face other states' laws when they serve users there, general consumer protection law and federal rules. Congress is considering 13 chatbot bills; see federal bills.
