Chatbot Laws Which laws apply?

Ohio chatbot laws

Ohio has no law that specifically regulates AI chatbots, as of November 4, 2026.

Multistate actions Ohio's attorney general joined

Joining a letter or court filing is not a lawsuit or a finding against any company.

Other Ohio laws that may matter

  • Consumer protection law: Ohio Consumer Sales Practices Act (Ohio Rev. Code chapter 1345). It applies to businesses generally, not to chatbots specifically; whether it reaches a particular chatbot practice is a legal question.

What still applies

Without a state chatbot law, companies serving Ohio residents may still face other states' laws when they serve users there, general consumer protection law and federal rules. Congress is considering 13 chatbot bills; see federal bills.
