Other Oregon laws that may matter

  • Consumer protection law: Oregon Unlawful Trade Practices Act (ORS 646.605 to 646.656). It applies to businesses generally, not to chatbots specifically; whether it reaches a particular chatbot practice is a legal question.
  • Consumer privacy law: Oregon Consumer Privacy Act (ORS 646A.570 to 646A.589), in effect from July 1, 2024. It sets rules for personal data, which can include what people type into a chatbot, for businesses that meet its thresholds.
