Other Rhode Island laws that may matter
- Consumer protection law: Rhode Island Deceptive Trade Practices Act (R.I. Gen. Laws section 6-13.1-1 et seq.). It applies to businesses generally, not to chatbots specifically; whether it reaches a particular chatbot practice is a legal question.
- Consumer privacy law: Rhode Island Data Transparency and Privacy Protection Act (R.I. Gen. Laws ch. 6-48.1), in effect from January 1, 2026. It sets rules for personal data, which can include what people type into a chatbot, for businesses that meet its thresholds.
